The Giza Pyramid Complex is home to the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure and represents one of the most important archaeological landscapes of ancient Egypt.
Pyramid of Khufu
The Great Pyramid was built during the Fourth Dynasty as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu. It is the largest of the three principal pyramids at Giza and the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World.
Pyramid of Khafre
The Pyramid of Khafre is the second-largest pyramid on the Giza Plateau. Its elevated position and surviving limestone casing near the summit make it one of the most recognizable monuments at the site.
Pyramid of Menkaure
The Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the three principal pyramids at Giza and was built for Pharaoh Menkaure of the Fourth Dynasty.
Giza Plateau and Great Sphinx
Explore the wider Giza archaeological area with your Egyptologist guide and learn about the history and layout of the pyramid complexes.
Continue to the Great Sphinx, the monumental limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a king. You will also see the Valley Temple associated with the pyramid complex of Khafre.
Your guide will explain the historical context of the pyramids, the Sphinx and the surrounding archaeological structures before continuing to Saqqara.
Saqqara Step Pyramid
Travel south from Giza to Saqqara, one of Egypt’s most significant ancient necropolises.
The Step Pyramid of Djoser is composed of six progressively smaller mastaba-like levels and represents an important stage in the development of monumental stone architecture in ancient Egypt.
The surrounding funerary complex provides further insight into royal architecture and burial traditions during Egypt’s Third Dynasty.
Memphis
Continue to Memphis, the ancient city traditionally associated with the early unification of Egypt and an important political and religious center for centuries.
During the visit, see important archaeological remains associated with ancient Memphis, including the colossal statue of Ramses II and the alabaster sphinx.
After completing your Giza, Saqqara and Memphis sightseeing, return by private air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel in Cairo.
