It is in the foot-hills of Gable Moses or Mount Sinai, on whose summit Moses received the tablets of the law with the ten commandments recorded. The monastery dates from the time of Emperor Justinian from the 6th century. It was at the same time that an enclosing wall was built around the monastery, but at the beginning of the 11th century the monastery was named St. Catherine, in honor of St. Catherine, one of the first Christians of Alexandria to be martyred.
Then drive about 65 kilometers north of St Cathriene onto St. Cathriene Road. There begins the path that leads to one of the geological wonders of Sinai, the Coulerd Gorge. The walls are very narrow, 40 meters high and just over a meter wide. They are made of sandstone with an incredible range of colors from dark brown to red to straw yellow. This is due to the presence of magnesium and iron oxides. Later, we return to Dahab for lunch, where we have time to walk in Dahab Street in Mashyia. Then drive back to your hotel
